It has been quite awhile!!

I just haven't really felt like knitting in awhile. :/ Sad as that may be, I have been doing a lot of other things!! I have mainly been focusing on my photography and really honing my skills! I have a website for that- http://jolynndemeterphoto.com. I am super excited and have definitely found a true passion for myself. Maybe even a future career...

Anyways, now that fall is in the air, I have been inspired to knit again. My WIPs are pretty much in the same stage they have been at since... The last time I posted. They are very very lonely! :( I have worked on my sweater (Hey Teach) a few times over the summer. I just haven't been in the mood. It has been pretty warm around here.

I think, though, that I would like to kick off with something simple. Probably a hat! I will let you know what I decide to start with, but for now, I am off to give my stash some much needed love!

Summer Interweave Knits

I really like the style of this, but I am not sure I would be up to knitting a garment for myself on size 3 needles...

Great Gatsby Dress

Lately I am all about wearing dresses! I love this dress, and I think I would enjoy knitting it. I don't know, however, if it would look nice on my shape or not.

Ribbons and Lace Cardigan

Of course! I love cardis. It is the teacher in me, I think. Heehee. I think this is really cute and I think I will be knitting this in the future!

I didn't do very much knitting over the weekend. DJ and I have been going bowling quite a bit lately. He really enjoys it and would like to join a league. I just go to hang out with our friends and to have fun. I have been improving my technique, though, and a higher score always makes it more fun for me!

I am coming down to the last month of the Spring Semester at school. I had thought briefly about registering for Summer classes, but I would much rather have the freedom to spend time with my friends who went away for school. I am going to be taking vocal lessons because I feel like I have made a lot of progress vocally over the past school year and I would like to stay in practice.

Now that I have told you my plan for the next few months... :P I hope your Monday wasn't too... Monday-ish! ^_^

Raindrops on roses...

I have been feeling like taking a lot of photos lately, and I am trying to teach myself how to edit them and such... Anyways, today was a rainy day so I decided to try and capture some raindrops.

Last night I started on the lace portion of Hey, Teach! I have never worked using a chart before and about six rows in I realized I had messed up royally. I had forgotten the two stockinette stitches at the beginning and end of each row, then I tried to compensate by knitting together stitches and... Ugh. I finally had to admit that it wasn't right. So I just let the project sit overnight and I picked it up again today for frogging and restarted the lace. Here you see the first repeat, minus two rows. I wanted to make sure there was enough light for photographing!

I have grown a little bored with my plain old sock, so I have switched over to the lovely Hey, Teach! I am loving working with this yarn (Knit Picks Comfy). It is so soft, and I love the color. I have about six inches of the back finished as of this post.

Wondrous Wednesday

The sun smiled on the world, the wind ran its whispery fingers through the branches of the trees, and the temperature was just right. I sat outside and ate my lunch of strawberries and a ham sandwich today, and then decided to take my sock out for some fresh air. My camera became envious, so I had to take her for a little stroll. Below, you will see what we found.

My sock. I am almost past the gusset stitches. Just a few more rounds before I will be knitting away on the foot, then the toe, then starting the second sock! Now that the weather is warming up, I would really like to work on my Hey, Teach! Soon, soon. ^_^

We have been sewing away on the costumes for this year's musical! I thought I would just show you some of what is happening here in costume land, since I have no knitting to show you...

This is my new best friend! I love this machine. It works so nicely for me. We are definitely going to be working together in the future. I envision skirts for myself and maybe some dresses... We shall see. In any case, you can see I was sewing on fringe for Indian costumes.

The Algonquin costumes. Pretty much all of these have been made this year. We have never put on this musical before, so it has been a lot of work sewing all the costumes!

The settler costumes. Luckily, most of these had already been made. I think the only new costume here is the first one in the first photo. Of course, adjustments had to be made to make sure they fit the musical, and the actor!

I will try to share photos when we get the costumes on the kids who are actually wearing them. We have decided that this year has been the most work, with hand sewing beads on collars, belts, and head bands being the most time consuming task!

Today was lovely! It was sunny, and a little bit warmer than it has been, so I decided to take a walk around the yard. I got some fresh air, which was nice. I took my camera along just in case anything of interest popped up...

The first little tulip (or hyacinth... not quite sure) shoots are pushing their heads up through the softening ground.

Hello, there. Just thought I would pop in and let everyone know I am still here.

I have so many things going on that I hardly have any knitting time, but when I am knitting I am working on some squares for a blanket, and a simple sock out of Cherry Tree Hill yarn. So far I like this yarn a lot! It is so soft and nice to work with! I can't wait to wear it next to my skin!

Winter Whallop!

That's what we got yesterday. Old man winter punched us in the gut... Haha. Sorry, I heard them say "winter whallop" on the news and it tickled me. ^_^

Lately my delicious novels have been replaced by text books, and my knitting needles have been swapped for pens and pencils... But I still have been doing a small amount of each.

I would like to share with you, though, what we did in my Intro to Early Childhood Ed. class on Thursday, if you would like to hear. We took a little trip to the teacher resource center on campus. Wow... It was like an elementary teacher's playground! We learned how to use all kinds of neat equipment, like the laminating machine and die cut machines. The die cuts have all kinds of shapes and numbers and letters so you can cut things out really neatly. I don't really know how to describe it. I thought the laminating machine was cool because it was automatic. The last one I have seen was one you had to crank by hand and the plastic was thin and cheap... So anyways, the whole day was quite fun for us. ^_^

My posting will, unfortunately, most likely be sporadic like this for a while since I will be focusing a lot on my school work. I still do enjoy reading everyone else's blogs and such.

A scarf for me!

I knit a scarf like this last year, I think, in Patons SWS and loved the way it looked. So I bought some pretty pink colored SWS for myself and here is the finished product! I used a larger size needle this time. I can't remeber what size I used last time, but I used a size 10 for this scarf. It made a really nice, soft fabric. I think I am going to make a Calorimetry to go with it to make my FIRST matching set! ^_^

Some lovely, yummy, super gorgeous Malabrigo to make another beret. This one will be for my friend, Alli. She has really pretty red hair, so I think this color will look great on her! There will definitely be a photoshoot! ^_^

Warning: No actual knitting content!

My love of knitting is very very close in ranking to my love of literature... Here is a long-ish story of my current reading addiction. And when I say addiction, I mean it. I have been reading nonstop for days!!

When it came to movie theaters, DJ and I saw The Other Boleyn Girl. History is absolutely one of my favorite subjects, and so I love historical fiction. I found the movie to be very exciting. I couldn't wait to find out the next scheme or plot...

So... When a friend told me that the movie came from a book, I was intrigued. As you may know, I greatly enjoy reading. I just had to read the book. Well, when I went to the library to find The Other Boleyn Girl I was saddened to discover it was already checked out. I found, however, another by the same author, Philippa Gregory. That was Wideacre. Now, this wasn't the Tudor era historical fiction I was looking for, but I found it hard to put down. I then discovered that it was one of a trilogy. Of course I had to read the last two! I found those to be equally difficult to put down!

I have just this afternoon finished The Boleyn Inheritance. It was based on the stories of Henry VII's third and fourth wives. He really was a vile man! I have done research (if you would call it that) on the series to find the "proper" reading order. Here is the complete list if you are interested in reading it:

1. The Constant Princess
2. The Other Boleyn Girl
3. The Boleyn Inheritance
4. The Queen’s Fool
5. The Virgin’s Lover
6. The Other Queen

Now, the list is in chronological order, but Gregory did not write the books in this order. I don't think it is necessary to read them in this order, just nice to follow the story from beginning to end, though I suppose it hasn't really ended at all but is still happening... In any case, I have begun them out of order, and I can follow what is going on easily.

I checked The Other Boleyn Girl out from my library this evening, and have just ordered the remaining books from Barnes & Noble with the gift card that my wonderful DJ put in my stocking at Christmas!

Let me know if you decide to try this author, or if you have already read anything by her! I would love to see what you think!

FO: Le Slouch

I have been wanting a beret for quite some time. I tried some on in stores, not to buy what I could easily knit, but to find the correct "slouch level" for me. DJ and I decided that I look best with a moderate to high amount of slouchiness in a beret. So... This beret seemed perfect. The pattern is super quick and easy. I knit about 6.5 inches before beginning the decreases, maybe I could go a little longer. In any case, I love it. I have yarn to make another one. I like the plain stockinette, but I am not sure if I will use seed stitch, as called for in the pattern, or not for the next one.

Anyways, without further ado...

Hello friends! I think this is the first time I have been on my computer since the last time I posted... I have been keeping up with all the blogs I read regularly, but I haven't had much time to comment.

Christmas brought some good times with family and friends. I couldn't believe that it was already here and then it was over just as quickly as it came. I mean, we know Christmas is at the same time every year, but a lot of us find ourselves wishing for just a few more days time... Anyways... Here are a few of my favorite photos from Christmas.

The boys just loved their pillows and their pouches that I made! They call their little pouches purses and carry them around everywhere! It's cute. ^_^

I have one FO to show. My Fluted Banister Socks! ^_^ Well, they aren't mine anymore... DJ's mom loves them, and they fit her perfectly! I count that as a success!

I spent this past week at Kalahari with DJ's family and two of our friends. It's an African themed resort with "America's largest indoor waterpark". Haha. It was a blast!!

I have just been browsing around Ravelry lately. I have seen a lot of toys that I think are cute. Too bad I didn't figure out that I like them a little earlier so that I could make some for Christmas!

One of my friends likes little monster creatures. I think I will still knit her some and send them to her.

I am getting a Nintendo DS for Christmas (I am a video game nerd... ;P) so I am going to knit one of these for myself!

Catching up with life

Oi! Finals are finally over! Now I can get back to life, and this blog!

My birthday was last Thursday, the fourth. I had two tests during the day, but DJ took me out for ice cream later that night. He's such a sweetie! ^_^ Then I had choir practice on Friday and afterwards had my fancy dinner with DJ's fam. We went to a really yummy Italian restaurant. My choir concert was Saturday. It was a lot of fun. We dressed up in Renaissance costumes. This is the only photo I have as of right now.

On Sunday I had my family party. I was babysitting the boys, so they got to come. We went sledding earlier that day and had a blast!

Earlier in the week last week I got a package from my Snack Swap Partner. Boy, did I feel spoiled! ^_^ She sent it in a yogurt box, which I thought was funny and went along with the swap well!

Now that I have time to knit (and breathe) again I have been working on DJ's mom's socks. I still have the second sock from that pair, the second sock from DJ's pair, and two scarves (one already started) to finish before Christmas day. I have more time to finish DJ's sister's socks because she and her husband are spending the holiday with his family in New York.

Whew! I think that's about all I have to catch you up on for now! I feel relieved!

P.S. I am watching Elf again... ^_^

Books, yarn, and sewing FOs

I very much needed to relax over Thanksgiving break. I was so happy to have time to do things for myself! DJ, my sister, and I went shopping on Black Friday and got some fantastic deals! I was able to find everything I set out to! Even though I went shopping, I still plan to give out some hand made Christmas gifts this year, and actually I have gotten quite a few completed.

My birthday is coming up this Thursday, so I thought I would treat myself to a couple of books I have been wanting.

I have also been wanting to make myself a couple of berets, so DJ bought me some yarn to do that (the reddish) and I bought myself the cream colored yarn.

And finally a few Christams gifts! These are for my three cousins. They are obsessed with the movie Cars. They are also (hopefully) getting a new playroom at their house, so I thought I would make some pillows to go in it. DJ's momma helped me. The front is the Cars fabric while the back is just plain black. Then she got the idea to make little zippered pouches with the leftovers. She's so creative! ^_^ There is one last square of fabric left that I thought we could frame and hang on the playroom wall.

P.S. I noticed that I spelled reddish like raddish, but I think it's funny so I will just leave it. ^_^

See How He Is?

Since DJ is a little snooper, he now knows about his socks! I am a little miffed because they were supposed to be his big surprise! :( Oh, well.

Last night I watched Elf while knitting away and drinking some hot chocolate. Then today I watched it again while knitting. I just LOVE that movie! For some reason I never tire of it! I can even watch it twice in a row, which I have done, and not be tired of it! It's my favorite. ^_^

I hope to finish the first Thuja sock by tomorrow. Then I need to get moving on finishing the mates for all of these lonely socks!

Driving was fun today! Not. Lol! I feel partially grumbly about the snow, but also partially happy. As soon as it starts to snow, I begin to feel like a hermit and all I want to do is sit at home curled up under a blanket and watch movies and knit or read. It's just so much more cozy than braving the winter storms!

I started and finished another twisted drop stitch scarf today. I love this one because it looks so frothy and pink! ^_^

I started a project for DJ today. I think he will like them! I have a few other ideas for him as well, but I am not certain as to exactly what patterns I will be using.

So I was going to blog all about how I cast on for Hey, Teach (which I did) and how I am going to work on it tonight while I watch some television, which I still plan to, despite the fact it was pointed out on And She Knits, Too! that there are 39 days until Christmas. That also means, though, that I have four weeks until vacation starts! ^_^ It kind of seems like a while, but that's about five weeks... How many projects can I get done? Haha. I am not panicking or anything, just hoping that I can get all my planned projects in!

A Scarf a Day

Keeps the chills away!

Here is the scarf I knit for my Aunt. You can't really see the pattern in this photo, but it is another twisted drop stitch. I love this pattern for gift scarves because it knits up in just a few hours! Here it is modeled by my younger sister. Speaking of her, she is still knitting away on her hat. She brought it over today with a few dropped stitches that she needed help with, but other than that she's doing well!

Tonight we are going glow bowling with a group of friends. I am excited! ^_^ I will definitely post some pictures tomorrow.

Puttin' on the Knits

DJ and I went out to dinner and then shopping tonight. Our favorite place to eat is Chipotle! Yummy!

I am trying to build a new wardrobe, so I have been hitting the sales whenever I see them for the past few months and gradually have been adding pieces. I love shopping, but sometimes I can get so frustrated when I can't find what I want in my size. Arg. I was just browsing through the formal dress section of a store when I overheard a conversation that made me sad. It was between a girl and her mom.

Mom: Oh, that one is pretty. I think you should try it on!
Girl: Mom, I could never even try that on, let alone wear it. I am just too big.

That just made me sad. It was a lovely dress and would have looked great on her. When I got out of the store I told DJ that I hate our society. When a girl feels like she can't even try something on because society has told her she is too big, too small, too whatever its just too much.

I have struggled with my own self consciousness issues, but I finally think I am getting over it. I don't mind (too much) shopping for clothes now when I can't find my size. I used to absolutely dread it because I would usually end up crying in the dressing room. Now instead of feeling like I need to loose weight because society tells me I have to, I can feel confident just being who I am and tell whoever thinks I am not good enough to stick it. I will excercise because I want to be healthy, not because I want to be a size 2. Not that being a size 2 is bad, if that is how you are meant to be. I can tell you, though, that I am not so I refuse to attempt it.

On a lighter note, I saw SO many great knits in the stores! It made me want to get started on the ones in my queue even more badly!! ^_^ I especially want to knit a beret! A big slouchy one. Those are the ones I think looked best on me when I was trying them on.

Getting Ready for the Holidays!

I went to Pat Catan's craft store today just to pick up a couple of balls of yarn for a quickie scarf for my aunt for Christmas.

While walking down the aisle with the dishcloth yarn, I saw some tapestry needles and remembered that I lost another one... So I grabbed some of those. (About the dishcloth yarn... I am kind of obsessed. I love to make dishcloths for my grandmother because they make her happy, and there are so MANY pretty colors... I didn't buy any tonight, though.)

I did, however, wander through the seasonal aisle and saw some cute ideas for a crafty project to do with the boys. The little ornaments are for the boys to paint and give to their Mommy for Christmas. The big one is for me to decorate for a different aunt who just adores snowmen.

When I finally neared the checkout I spotted a basket with stamps for only 50 cents. I dug through and found this one. I thought it would be cute to use for my Christmas cards this year.

My goal this year is to give everyone a hand made gift. Not necessarily knit, but hand made. I have a ton of ideas for everyone, which is why I began during the summer!

P.S. I have dilligently begun the second Monkey sock. Haha! ^_^

Every so often we have these things called etc. performances at school. I went to one for the first time tonight and I had a blast. This particular performance was a performance art piece where you make art while you are performing. We had a group called Red Hand come to school and perform.

I know this will probably seem weird, but it was about hair. Anyone in the audience could be in it. There was a professional hair stylist on stage and she cut some of our hair Just a trim, which I actually needed... Then we contributed it to a circle of the others' hair. There was a rack of costumes set up on the opposite side of the stage (all red, for the group). You then could go over and pick through the costumes and put on whatever you wanted. When you had your chosen piece you could walk into the spotlight and say something about hair. Whatever you wanted. For example, I put on a plaid shirt and told the audience that it reminded me of something my uncle would wear. Then I said, "He is bald except for this little piece of hair that he combs over the bald spot. You aren't fooling us... We know you're bald... It's okay."

This little seven year old went and got his hair cut. He then came over to the costume rack and proceeded to plop a Cat in the Hat esque hat on his little head and pulled on some big red ski boots. He kept clomping around the stage preteding the hat was stuck. His presence made it much easier to play, which is what performance art is about... Play. Seeing him clomping around made me realize that it didn't really matter what the audience thought about what I did, as long as I was having fun doing it. The kid then put on a silk robe and said, "I'm a jedi knight! Take that, Hans Solo!"

Then I decided to put on a punk-y looking jacket and tell about the time I dyed my hair purple. I said, "The summer before my freshman year in high school I dyed the ends of my hair purple because I thought I would look punk. I turned out just looking like a nerd with purple hair..."

All in all, it made for an interesting, fun night. I certainly have never done anything like that before, so I was a bit out of my comfort zone at first, but I soon was just fine!

On the knitting front... No Purl Monkey number one is done! Despite all my Christmas knitting plans, I really want to cast on for Hey, Teach! :\

General Ramblings

Today we went to Red Lobster for DJ's grandfather's and twin uncles' birthdays. It just made me think of life, I guess. I always thought it was taking forever to grow up, but now that I am going to be 19 (not that old, I know) and I am done with high school and in college it seems like the years have gone by really fast.

That makes me think of when I learned to knit. I joined a knitting club at school when I was in tenth grade (about three years ago... Wowzers!) and learned from the girl who had been my best friend since knidergarten. We were in every single class together until fifth grade. After that we rarely ever saw each other until high school so, naturally, we drifted apart. In joining the knitting club and her teaching me to knit we grew closer again.

I learned that my French teacher knit and crocheted. She also, like me, enjoys reading. (Which reminds me that I think I still have a book I borrowed from her...) I really enjoyed chatting with her after school and before flag practice or play/musical rehearsals. I even still go and chat with her when I pick my sister up from school. I think she does read this blog sometimes, so hello just in case you are! I promise I will check and see if I still have your book and I will return it if I do! ^_^

I know there are a lot of stories like mine, but I was wondering if any of you have one. Have you been brought closer to someone through knitting? Or maybe have you met new people? I know I have made a lot of friends on the internet, but as I don't really knit with a group or anything like that I don't really know a lot of knitters in real life. I do, however, love to meet new people and make new friends so I have been searching for a group of gals to knit with.

The weekends go by so darn fast! I wish there was more weekend and less week sometimes! Haha! ^_^

The other day I got home pretty late and I was pretty worn out. I was ready to go right to sleep when I saw a package waiting for me! Well I opened that box right up and inside I found the yarn I purchased from the destash sale! I just LOVE it!

It's going to be very soft and warm, whatever I end up making out of it. Once I get my Christmas knitting done, or at least a good chunk of it, I will cast on for either Hey, Teach! or whatever I decide to make with my new Elann Peruvian Highland Chunky. Like I said, the February Lady sweater is high on my list.

Speaking of soft and warm, here is my sometimes bed buddy... Matthew! I woke him up from his nap right before this shot. Poor baby! ^_^

Epic Fail!

I am currently trying to teach my sister to knit in the round.

She is doing well so far, I think!

I haven't gotten any chance to work on my sock today because I babysat my cousins again. They definitely require all my attention so there could be no knitting happening while I am there! I am to babysit again tomorrow, so I think it will take a few more days to finish that sock. It's okay with me, though. So far I am pretty on schedule with my gift knitting. By saying that I probably have drawn myself into the knitting gods' attention. Now I will not finish at all. Haha!

I have two new yarny purchases to share, but I need some good light for photos. The colors are just too pretty to show in rainy day light. So stay tuned! ^_^

When Darkness Falls...

No, not the movie! ^_^ One thing I don't like about winter time is that it gets darker a lot faster... I meant to go outside this afternoon to take pictures and got distracted. The next thing I knew, it was already too dark! :( Oh, well. There isn't really much to see on my sock, anyways. I love the way the colors are coming out, though!

Now, maybe a lot of people wouldn't think a half an hour of sitting in one spot is bad (like people in Chicago or New York or any other highly populated area) but when my commute home from class is normally only 20 minutes long and I have to wait half an hour, I get a little peeved. They are reconstructing one of the main roadways near my house and it has led to many many traffic problems. I just can't wait for them to be FINISHED! Lol. In order to deal with the traffic I turned on some classical music and turned a heel! ^_^ I am now on to the foot! I just may reach my goal of finishing this sock before the week is over!

It is my opinion that every single citizen of age in the United States has the duty to vote. I hope you did. I am also of the opinion that if you forfeit your right vote, you forfeit the right to complain when things aren't going the way you think they should! That's just about as political as I get. I don't enjoy debating with others about my political views, even though I do have an opinion. It's just not my style. I understand why some folks do enjoy it, and I will listen if someone wants to share their opinion with me, but I feel that I have my views and you have yours. Everyone has their own background and their own reasons as to why they choose to vote the way they do and as long as you vote, I say good for you!

Here is a photo of the first Fluted Banister Sock. For some reason this took forever to knit. I think it was the purling in the round... I don't like it. Haha! I am happy with how it turned out, though.

Haunted Houses!

Last night DJ and I decided to check out a few haunted houses. I do not like them. Haha! I mean, I suppose they are fun, but I get scared. Alright... Its fun. If I didn't get scared I guess there would be no point.

I am going to attempt to participate in National Blog Posting Month, or NaBloPoMo for short. I think it will be a fun challenge to post every day. I always think of things to say, but never get around to blogging them. If I blog every day I will be more likely to remember what I wanted to say... Hopefully.

Anyways... Other than that I guess I have nothing else to say today... See how I am? I'm not ready for the week to begin! ^_^

ETA: Oh! Do any of you have or know anyone who has any Socks That Rock in the Dixie Chick colorway that they are willing to sell?? I have been lusting after it since last Christmas... And now that I have the money to buy it seems there is none to be found! :( Please let me know!

I got some new yarn from Knitpicks! Yay! This is the yarn in my first ever swatch. Haha... Probably should have been doing a few more of those. Oh, well. The yarn is Knitpicks Comfy in Planetarium. It's so soft and delicious. But what am I going to make with it? Hey, Teach! Of course. I hope it works out well. ^_^

I am also saving my swatch (along with others I may make...) for a blanket like Ron's of my very own! (That's a Ravelry link.) If you are into Harry Potter, you should check out the swap! Hurry, though, because sign ups end tomorrow!

I saw this sweater... capelet... thing at H&M and I want it!! I didn't want to shell out thirty bucks for it, though, when I could probably make it for myself, and have fun doing it, too! I know the photo isn't all that great of quality, but can you remember seeing any pattern like this? It's kind of like the Anthropologie-Inspired Capelet, but it's more drapey and flowy. I guess I could have taken a photo of it on me... Oh, well. Can anyone help?? Haha.

Fall Fun!

I babysat three of my little cousins this past Sunday and we had a lot of fun! DJ and I took them to the pumpkin patch and they each picked out a small-ish pumpkin and a colorful gourd. After that we went out to lunch and then headed back home to carve our pumpkins. I cut out the tops of each of their lil pumpkins and let them scoop out all the insides. We saved some of the seeds for baking and eating later! Then they each told me what they wanted on their pumpkin and then the two of us sat together and talked while I carved and the other two watched a Halloween movie. I think they really enjoyed our special time together. After I finished all of their pumpkins I lit a candle in each one and turned out all the lights. The looks on their precious little faces were just priceless. They were just so excited! It almost made me tear up! ^_^

Here is a photo of the finished pumpkins, although it didn't turn out very well... We have a spider, a mad face, and a happy face.

I love October!

October is my favorite month! I just love fall and Halloween! There will be lots of fall pictures popping up on the blog soon. The leaves have just started to turn... Time to break out the knits. It's also the time when I feel most inspired to knit many different things. I feel very generous with my knits at this time of year, too. But I have to save them for the holidays!!

Today I babysat for the girls I sat for over the summer. It has been a month since I saw them last! They have changed so much in such a small amount of time. The baby starting walking, finally! And the older sis got some cute bangs cut. I miss being with them everyday, but I will probably be watching them regularly again soon. ^_^

Sock blockers! I used the popular Little Sesame Knits tutorial and plastic placemats from the Dollar Store. I made two sets of the Pirates of the Carribbean blockers, one for DJ's momma and one for his sister. I want to have a nice way to present their Christmas socks. I made the Tinkerbell set for myself. ^_^

DJ went to the Apple Store today, which I find to be boring. No offense to anyone who loves the place, I am just not into it... : \ Anyways, while he was there I went to Barnes and Noble. Mmm... Books. ^_^ I bought Knitting Rules! Oh, how I love the Yarn Harlot. I don't care who ya are, she's funny! I don't remember where I heard that the first time, but every time DJ says it I bust up laughing!

Here is my progress as of this afternoon...

I guess it would be pretty good if I were on the second sock... But nope. This is still the first. Wow. I only say that because I thought these would be quick and easy when I started them a couple of months ago. I think after I finish this first one I will move on to the No Purl Monkeys for DJ's sister, and then come back to the second one. Don't worry! I will finish the pair... Eventually. Before Christmas, in any case. ^_^

I also taught myself how to cable this week! Finally! And you know what, it really isn't that difficult. Silly me, putting it off for so long and for nothing!

I went to the craft store today, just to browse around... You know... ^_^ Anyways, I came across this cutie little project bag. I bought one for me and one for a friend whose birthday was last weekend, but I am celebrating it with her this weekend. I think she'll love it. I also want to go back and get some for a few other people. I hope they still have them! : /

That's my current SIP inside... Still haven't finished the first one, but I have gotten to the heel flap and am ready to turn the heel. I also started a nice chunky ribbed scarf. You know how the lure of the first sign of cold weather is... It's not wide, but it's thick and hopefully it will be long-ish. Depends on when I get tired of ribbing. Haha!

I made this necklace and earring set for DJ's sister for her birthday! I am just beginning to test the waters of jewelry making. It is fun! I made a whole bunch of earrings for myself and I will definitely take pictures and show them off this week!

This weekend I am going camping with DJ's family. That should be fun. I just realized that I have been working on this pair of socks since the last time I went camping... And I am still on the first one!! Oh well. I have been busy with school and baby projects. And washcloths... Oh, the washcloths... ^_^

Did you miss me? ^_^ Well, I have to say I have still been reading blogs and looking at knitterly things, but I really just haven't had time to update this bloggy! What with school and babysitting and all I keep myself busy!

I have only a few simple FOs to show you...

I know one couple that just had a baby girl... That's the pink hat. And one who is having a baby boy. That's the blue and red hat along with the
washcloths. I am also working on another quick hat for the boy. The shower is on Monday, so I have to get moving on that one!

These are for my friend who just moved into her own place. I also got her a photo album and some blank cards made from recycled materials. (She moved a state away.)

This is my favorite marching band, sans me. :( I would be in the back there with the flags if I didn't have to... You know. Graduate. My little sister is a freshman this year, though, and on the flag team so that's exciting. ^_^

Oh! In addition to the baby hat I am still working on that pair of socks for the momma. I know they will be done by Christmas, so no worries there. I also have a pair planned for DJ's sister... No Purl Monkeys. My fave!! That's all I have planned so far for the holidays. I will definitely fill you in on any other projects I add to the list!

Oh, the weather was lovely today. After class I had to babysit. The girls' parents put up some new toys over the weekend! There was a big ole knotted rope for Emylee, and a baby swing for lil Pumpkin. I had never swung (?) on a rope like this, so I had to give it a try. Let me say, it hurts the delicate knitting hands, but it sure was fun! ^_^

I also got some knitting in while the girls played. Yay!

Of Sadness and Cherry Pie

I start class at the college tomorrow. I am a bit excited, I suppose, but there is still a big part of me that doesn't want to let go of high school. I had a pool party today with some of my girl friends from Flag Corps and they talked a lot about the season coming up and all the new routines and stuff. My sister is in flag this year, as well. It's going to be difficult, at least until my closest friends graduate this year. *sighs* It's hard to be a part of something for four years and then just not be. :(

Anyways, on to knitting. I haven't worked on the mom socks becuase I have been knitting up dishcloths for a friend who is moving out of state for college. She is getting her own apartment so I want her to have something special to remember me by. I think I am going to bake up a batch of cookies for her, as well. ^_^

Speaking of baking... DJ and I are at his grandma's house right now and we just had some of her delicious cherry pie.

As you can see, I had a couple bites of the ice cream before I took the photo. Then I thought I would show you how yummy it looks. I am a brat, aren't I?

These mosaics are quite useful. I made one of some of my favorite photos I found on Flickr and some of my own photos. Then I used it as my desktop background tiled over and over. It looks pretty neat, I think.

The Sock in Progress is intended for DJ's mother for Christmas. I have a few repeats left until I start the heel on the first sock. I am using the Fluted Banister Socks pattern. I hope she likes them!!

Today I took the girl I baby sit outside for a photo shoot. She is just so adorable. Here are a few of the images I took and edited this evening. I plan to do a series of four as a gift for the baby's parents, but I haven't finished the last one just yet.

Now that I look at them like this, I may just leave it as these three... Hrmm. Anyways, I learned a new technique in my Photoshop-esque editing program. I have wanted to know for a while how to have a black and white background, but have another part of it in color. It turns out it's not as difficult as I thought it was! ^_^

This weekend I hope to make significant progress on the socks I am working on. They are for DJ's mom. I also knit up a quick scarf and I want to photograph it and show you. I am getting an early start on my Christmas gifts... I know, I know. Don't say those words! Sorry! Hehe!

Nothin' Doin'

Or doin' nothin'... In any case, that's what we did (or did not) do this Saturday. Well, sort of. We did wash DJ's car, which he did mostly. I just rinsed. ^_^

Then we lounged. I read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on the patio while DJ 'tanned'. Right... It was just a gorgeous day. We had to enjoy it!

I did wander around a bit and snap some photos... There were tons of bees floating around these flowers in the back yard. DJ is frightened of bees to the point of squealing when one flies even close to him. He's so cute! He probably won't like that I told you all that... Hehe... Hi, Deej! ^_^

After our afternoon of lounging (and some packing by DJ... He's going camping with his family until Wednesday) we went to a street festival and listened to his bro-in-law's band play. My ears are still ringing. Haha.

So here's to lazy Saturday afternoons. Hope yours was fabulous, even if it wasn't so lazy... ^_^

I know, I know. I promised photos of my finished No Purl Monkey Socks last week. I apologize. DJ and I decided to go camping this weekend so I didn't exactly have access to a computer.

So now, without further yapping...

Pattern: No Purl Monkeys
Yarn: Fibranatura Yummy
Needle Size: US 2
Notes: I did four repeats on the leg rather than six. I did that for two reasons... First, I don't like my socks to be really high. Second, I didn't think I would have enough yarn. In the end, though, I would have had plenty. Anyways, I absolutely love this pattern! So much, in fact, that I am knitting another pair. Mmhmm. Out of my Cherry Tree Hill. I went down to a size 1 because size 2s were just too large for the yarn. I am a few pattern repeats into the leg so far. They are purdy. ^_^

Camping was very relaxing. We went on a few hikes, went to the beach, and rented a canoe! I had never been on a canoe before, so that was kind of fun. We just kind of lounged by the fire in the evenings. Oh! We made s'mores, as well. Yummers! I also might be going camping with my family this weekend, but I think I will get more knitting done this time around. DJ and I were really active during the day and it was much too dark to knit in the evenings.

Stitch n Pitch

This was so much fun! It was awesome to see all of the stitchers around us in the stands and see what they were making and wearing! Our seats were pretty good, too! We were very happy with them. ^_^

Here are some photos from the game:

Unlike most of the other stitchers there, I found that I couldn't knit and concentrate on the game too well, so I only got the cuff of a sock done. One woman sitting a row in front of ours finished a pair of baby booties.

I have just one lace repeat left until I am ready to turn the heel on my second No Purl Monkey! These socks will be done before I know it! I am not sure what my next project will be yet. I want to make a grocery bag. And MORE SOCKS! I'm simply smitten with socks! ^_^

I went to French Creek Fiber Arts again today... But I didn't buy yarn. What did I buy? Hmmm...

A drop spindle! I am going to learn how to spin yarn! ^_^ I am pretty excited. I have wanted to learn how to spin for a while, now, but I just don't have the money (or room) to buy a big wheel. I thought a drop spindle would be a good place to start. I will let you know how it works out!

Books and Yarn!

I have been meaning to do this post since last week, but with all of the Independence Day festivities and such I haven't really had time.

You may remember when I talked about a book order from Amazon. Well, I received that on Wednesday. I was just headed out to meet someone for lunch when the package was delivered, so I tossed it in the car and was on my way. I didn't really have time to open it until a few hours later. When I finally did have time to open the box, I wasn't disappointed!

I flipped through this book a few times at the book store and was debating on whether or not to get it. I finally decided to when I saw it on Amazon.

Whee! I love reading Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's writing! I read her blog regularly. This is the second book I have gotten of hers.

I have been on a sock yarn rampage lately! I look at sock yarn on the internet when I have nothing else to do. I guess it's not just the yarn... It's socks. I have been bitten by the bug! I look at patterns, too! I have also been on a Harry Potter kick again, too. So... What better way to feed my craving for both than...

HARRY POTTER SOCK YARN!!

This is hand-dyed yarn from Cosmic Fibers. It's called Nearly Headless Nick or Bloody Gryffindors! Oh, I love it! I already have a pattern picked out for it!

Spiral Eyelet Socks

I wanted a pattern that would show off the stripes nicely, but also offer a bit more interest than stockinette, both visually and while I knit. I don't know if these will be my next knit or not, but I will be knitting them soon!

I will be taking a trip to the yarn shop tomorrow, so who knows what yarns will be coming home with me... ^_^ I've had my eye on one particular yarn for socks for DJ's sister... I really think she would love it, and I want to get it before it's no longer there for the getting! Hehe.

New Yarny Deliciousness

I had a lovely, rainy, wet, gloomy... Sunday afternoon. Alas, the skies of gray were brightened by a lovely ray of sunshine... The local yarn store!

I had a bit of difficulty finding the shop in the first place. I drove to Avon to find this shop, French Creek Fiber Arts. It definitely wasn't where I thought it was, so I drove back and forth about 25 bagagillion times. Finally, exasperated, I was just looking around and I saw a sign for Old Avon Village. This sign had a few smaller signs connected to the bottom of it. A few mini-signs down I saw "French Creek Fiber Arts". Mind you, this was all in a matter of seconds. I went rrrrrrrrrrrrrttttttt. Tuuuuuurrrrnnnn. Woohoo!

The lady working there was really nice. I feel awful that I don't remember her name... :( She asked questions about me and my knitting experience. She showed me both projects she had with her (a sock and a cardigan). We talked technique and much more. She invited me to the weekly knitting group, which I plan to attend this Friday. She even told me about a Stitch n Pitch event on July 10 that DJ and I decided we will attend! Yay! There was a cute kitty named Bordhi (after Cat, I learned ^_^). He was very sweet. We were able to talk a lot because I was the only person in the shop, I suppose because it was a rainy Sunday.

What did I buy, you ask? Well, I really had to reign myself in because I just placed an order with Amazon for knitting books. I was tempted by lots of yummy Cherry Tree Hill sock yarns. For, of course, I was focused on the sock yarn. (I have definitely jumped on the sock bandwagon...) They have a really wonderful selection. I didn't have my camera with me... I would have taken pictures for you to see!

I ended up bringing home two skeins to add to my stash.

Some gorgeous Cherry Tree Hill! Oh, how I love these colors! This will become a pair of socks for me.

And some Wisdom Yarns in the Boston colorway. This is for DJ's mom. Well, not for her, really, but the socks I knit out of it will be! ^_^

While everyone else seems to be cutting back on stash lately, I am trying to build mine up! Which side of the playground are you on?

A Bit O' Progress

As of this post, I have finished one lace repeat on the No Purl Monkeys... For some reason I kept making a mistake in row 5 and had to rip back several times. I guess I just wasn't paying close enough attention... Oh well. I finally got past it. ^_^

I wish I would have had more time to work on them today. We are going to the movies later tonight, so I will probably work on them later later. Haha.

I started this in, oh, I don't know... March? I had about an inch left to knit when I took it somewhere with me. I thought I left it there but then the other day I was digging throuh my knitting basket and found the WIP at the bottom... So, I finished it!

The yarn is from a previous post, and it is more red than it looks in the above photo. I am pretty excited about these socks. I hope they turn out well. ^_^

Yesterday was a wonderful day for me. I went to lunch with DJ's mother, then we went to the LYS together. Now, she isn't a knitter, but we sure did enjoy fondling the yarns! She is, however, a beader... She saw the Odessa hat that the owner of the shop had knit and said that this might be something she would like to try... Hmm... ^_^ I also found out they have a knit night every Friday. I have been looking for a local group to knit with, so I think I may go this week and meet everyone.

After the LYS, I went to Cedar Point with a couple of my friends.

When I got home I worked on the bolero. It's coming along, but it still just looks like ribbing and a lot of lace.

I just looked outside and it is absolutely POURING! It has been so hot lately. I am glad for the rain.

I have been ignoring the lace bolero for the weeked. I was very frustrated with it. Now I have begun to work on it again. In its place I have been reading... Not that I had much time for that either. You see, my graduation party was on Saturday. (I am kind of working backwards here... Oh well.) That was a lot of fun. We played badminton (I had to look up the spelling. ^_^) and volleyball. It was hot, but we survived. In the afternoon we had family and other adults and a few kids who couldn't come later at the party. Then, at about seven, the "cool people party" started. Those aren't my words. One of the adults coined the phrase.

Ribbed Lace Bolero

Here is my progress so far. I am fairly new to lace knitting. I know this pattern isn't all that difficult, but I had a bit of trouble. I thought it was easy, so I got overconfident and stopped paying too close of attention to it and I made a mistake. So... I had to rip back about five rows, which as you know isn't very easy. I just HATE ripping out stitches. All the while I think to myself...

If you would have just paid attention while you were knitting, you wouldn't have to spend half an hour (or whatever) ripping back to this mistake that took about five seconds to make!

Urrrrg. Haha.

When I finish this project I think I will pick up the River Stole again and finish it. I find it much easier to do these big projects on circular needles rather than the straight needles I had been using for everything! They are, for one, pointier and that makes lace go much more quickly. Also, they allow you to spread out your project so you can see what it actually looks like, rather than seeing a bunched up ball of yarn.

Recently I began listening to knitting podcasts while I knit. Currently I listen to Sticks and String, Knit Spirit, and last night I downloaded Lime n Violet. Those ladies are just too funny!

Are there any other knitting pod casts I should check out?? Let me know!

It was an overcast day today... But that was nice for photographing some of my lovely flowers!

I finished the ribbing and began the lace on my Ribbed Lace Bolero. I will probably get a bit further along seeing as it's only early evening right now. Hopefully by the next time I post, I will have something worth photographing. ^_^

I knit a Feather and Fan Stitch washcloth for my grandmother the other day. I am trying to help replace all her old worn out ones with nice handknit ones. She knits, as well, but she only likes to do scarves using different knit/purl combinations. She just likes to relax in front of the television with her knitting, so she's not really interested in working on anything more complicated than that, she tells me.

Oddly enough, she kind of re-learned how to knit when I first learned. Two years ago I joined a knitting club at school because I was always curious about knitting. When I came home and showed her what I learned that kind of made he get back her knitting spark. I helped her remember the basics. So, while most people learn to knit from their grandmothers, I sort of taught mine.

It's official! I'm finished with high school. I've turned the page on that chapter and am beginning another. I will be attending the Community College in the fall and am planning to teach elementary school.

A Day of Sitting

BABY sitting, that is to say. I baby-sat my three young cousins, with the help of my aunt (not their mother, of course). They are certainly a handfull, that's for sure. I love them very much, though!

The weather was lovely, so off to the park we went for a picnic dinner and some play time! There was running, jumping, kite flying, swinging, etc... And eventually napping, thank goodness! ^_^

End of the year blues...

Last night was our band banquet and tonight is our choir banquet. I purchased photo frames with those large matts for all of the seniors to sign. I also put a photo of all of the seniors with each respective director. One for the band director and one for the choir director. When I presented the band director with his he got a little choked up. I know our choir director will cry.

Graduating is sad... And expensive. Caps and gowns, parties, school fees, medals and stoles and pins and ropes... Gee wiz. And then comes college.

I am knitting dishcloths like crazy. My grandmother loves them and I want to replace all of her raggedy worn out plain store bought ones. I am also working on another Isabeau Purse for myself. Knit Picks Shine Sport in Crocus. Yuuummmmy!

It's over! WOW! The show went really well, I think. Especially the last performance. I am really happy. And I think I finally have gotten over my stage fright! I am very proud of myself! Maybe... I can post a sound clip of one of my solos on here some time this week! It's just a passing thought, but I will have to see what DJ (my computer nerd... lol) can do. This is, as of right now, the only photo I have. I am hoping my fellow cast will share. This is me and my friend Noah.

I have free time agian! That means I can knit. With the musical and finals for my college classes and the year end stuff for my high school classes I have had less than no free time.

I have TWO WEEKS left of my senior year in High School. TWO!! I just feel strange knowing that I have been in this school district with the same people for thirteen years and now I have two short weeks left! I will be going to the Community College for two years, though, so I will still be around. Then I am going to transfer to Ashland University. I want to be an elementary school teacher. ^_^

Log Cabin

I have decided to try out the log cabin technique in a blanket! I am knitting it for my boyfriend's mother for Christmas. I am using her favorite colors, blue and purple. I haven't really made significant progress yet, but when I do I will show you!

What? A post?

Alrighty. SO... Prom was last Saturday. It was a blast! I had a fabulous time with all of my friends. We just danced and ate. The food was actually pretty tastey. I had "Baked Breast of Chicken" as well as some sides and, of course, desert. That was a variety of cookies and other finger-y food type yummies. Hehe. I am very dissappointed that I have to tell you this... But I didn't finish my shawl in time. :( I am about half way through as of right now. I guess trying to get my first lace project done in just a couple of weeks just wasn't such a great idea. I am still going to finish it because the yarn is beautiful, and I think it will be fabulous to wear on cool summer nights!

What am I working on now?? Okay... I currently have on the needles a beret for myself. I know it's not exactly "hat season", but the yarn that my Secret Pal sent in my last package just called to me. I really wanted to use it, and I really wanted to knit this pattern. It's The Not Too-Too Beret by Wendy Bernard (Knit and Tonic).

The colors are really much richer in person. This flourescent library light doesn't do them justice!

The musical is about two weeks away now. I am pretty excited. I hope it goes well!!

My thunder, that is to say... When I first stared River, I worked on it non-stop. Now I find that I don't really feel like working on it. Perhaps this is because I am usually not a monogamous knitter and this has been the only thing I am working on.

Conclusion: I need to start a new project. But what? Let's check out the queue...

*30 minutes later*

I couldn't find anything in my queue that is really calling to me, so I have looked at other patterns. I was intending to make something small... But then I decided I want to knit a blanket. I was hoping to eventually be able to knit one for my boyfriend's mother. I think a pattern that consists of small squares sewn together would be best. That way I will still be able to feel the pleasure of "finishing" the squares. It will keep me motivated. Hopefully, anyways!

Off to find a pattern! ^_^

NYC is the place for me!

Well... My trip was fabulous! I wouldn't want to live there, not to offend anyone who does! It's just too busy and there are too many people for me to live there. Anyways, I wouldn't want to live there, as I said, but I most definitely loved visiting! I would go back in a heartbeat!

These are certainly not all the photos I took. I know there are a lot here, but I really didn't feel that any less would give a good feel for what I did...

I loved pretty much every aspect of the trip, although I have to say my favorite part was Ellis Island. I just felt very... I don't know if I want to say emotional or what... When I first stepped on the island I thought about how many of America's people had been there. When I looked at the Statue of Liberty I was very aware that millions of eyes had held this very same sight. I wish I would have had more time to really look in the museum, but that is definitely one of the things on my "To Do" list for when I go back.

I’m leavin’ today…

That’s right, all… I am heading to New York today! I am very excited! My choir will be boarding the bus at about 9 pm and we will be in the city until around that same time Sunday evening.

While we are there we will be seeing two Broadway productions- Wicked (!) and Spamalot, both of which I am very psyched about! We have some free time scheduled in, so I am hoping that we will be near a yarn shop. ^_^

I received another wonderful package from my Secret Pal over on the Knitty boards… She has absolutely SPOILED me! She really had me down to a T! I am very grateful!

Today I went through my queue on Ravelry and got rid of some things I didn't think I really was interested in any longer. I also tried to put the list in an order I thought I would be likely to work in... At least the first few items or so... Who really knows what you are going to feel like knitting next anyways, right?

Right now I am working on a paper for my sociology class, and also studying for a test in the same class. The professor always has papers due on the same day as our tests, which I like because writing the papers allows me to go over the info again. It helps me retain everything easier, I think.

Later this evening I hope to cast on River! What do you think of the colors of the yarn with the dress? I think I will like it.

Today my ten year old cousin was over and he asked, "Jo, can we go on one of those photo things like we went on before?? Please?" I said, "Ted, there won't be that much to photograph..." "That's alright, Jo. It'll be fun anyways, and I want out of the house."

So off we went on our little photo excursion. I was right, there wasn't much to see... But our walk did leave me positively aching for Spring's warmer weather!

I also finished a Calorimetry that I started last night for my younger sister.

Prom Dress!!

I went prom dress shopping today... And I actually found something! I am so happy. I love this dress! I went to David's Bridal and seriously EVERY store at the mall that sells formal dresses. I usually get dresses secondhand, but I wanted something really special for my senior prom.

I was single. LOL.

Yesterday... Marked one year and six months since DJ and I started dating. We went out to dinner and a movie to celebrate.

The movie we saw was Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Any one heard of it, or seen it? It was really good. I loved it. Very funny. Very cute. A great love story. Several love stories all rolled in one.

Here is my desert... YUM! It was some kind of chocolate mousse cake that was like eating a slice of Heaven. Soooo delicious!

Sorry... I just want to share everything!

My sister's musical went wonderfully! The kids are all so talented and so nice to each other. They all did a fantastic job.

I did some of the makeup and helped with costuming and such. I also helped make props and set the stage and all that... My choir director is also the choir director at the middle school. My boyfriend's family are all really good friends with the director, so they have always helped with the musical. His mom is the main seamstress of all the costumes, his BIL does all the sound, his sister does most of the make up, DJ usually tapes and edits the videos or helps out backstage, and I just go wherever I am needed.

This is perhaps one of the most well know Irish blessings, but it is also one of my favorites. My grandmother used to have this on a Celtic cross-shaped plaque above her bed. I just remember visiting her and reading the blessing. Now, everytime I read it I think of her.

I got a part!

Recently I auditioned for our school's musical, and I got a part! ^_^ I am very happy about it. The musical is School House Rock Live! and I am just super excited!

I am to play Shulie! Here is her description: The sweet side- genuine. An ingenue. Loves math (top line in the score). I have three big solo songs, along with other small parts in other songs. There is a sort of "love scene" with another character. LOL! I have never done a love scene before, so we'll see how that is. Hehe. The first day of practice was a read-through of the whole script and when we got to that part the other actor, who plays George, and I were a little pink in the face. I hope we still are like that come performance time. I think it will add to the performance.

I, very sadly, have not been knitting much at all this week. My schedeule was busy before, but now it's even more packed. I go to high school during the day, then I have musical practice, then I head out to the college for class there. Sometimes after that I head to the middle school to help out with thier musical set. One day this week I was there until 10:30 with DJ and his mother, both of whom also help out with the eighth grade musical. This year they are doing The Little Mermaid. My younger sister is in it, so it's especially cool that I get to help out.

Last year was the first musical we had in a very long time at the high school. It was Little Shop of Horrors. I was in that, too, and it was awesome. I was a member of the "singing trio", for those that are familiar with the story.

The eighth graders put on a musical every year. When I was in eighth grade, we did Cinderella. I was a Troubador in that. Knid of like the singing narrator.

I love to sing. It is just such an important thing for me. I love being involved with all aspects of musicals, like the set and all that, but I really enjoy being on the stage. I am thinking of trying out a vocal coach for this one, though, because I have never had so many solos and I really want to nail them. I think at Oberlin College, which is near to me, students charge $5-$10 an hour.

New Scarfy (Scarfey?)

However you spell it... I have a new one. Very quick... It took me only about two hours total using the twisted drop stitch. Just learned it yesterday. Yay! ^_^

Me... Modeling goofily. Boy, I am just throwing out made up words left and right today, aren't I?

I used size 13 needles and cast on 12 stitches. I knit only the first and last rows, and used the twisted drop stitch on every row in between. The yarn is Palette something or other... I don't remember the number... I do know that is is so soft and fluffy, like a cloud.

Snowed In and A Life With Men

Today we in northeast Ohio recieved quite a bit of snow. So much, in fact, that there was a driving ban. Only emergency vehicles were allowed on the roads!

I didn't have my camera today... I left it at DJ's house, so I didn't have the chance to take any photos. I am sad, because this is the most snow we have had in a looong time. Oh well.

With my time today I baked. ^_^ I first made some Cranberry Walnut Muffins for breakfast. If anyone would like the recipe, I would be happy to post it! Then I made some yummy chocolate chip cookies! I finished The Friday Night Knitting Club. Another book I really enjoyed! I now have nothing in my book queue. :( I won't be able to get to the library tomorrow, either probably. Too much snow!

I also knit, of course! My sister picked out some novelty yarn and she gave it to me requesting a plain old garter stitch scarf. I worked on that today and got about 3/4 of the way finished. When I got bored with that I knit a dish cloth. Then I started a Calorimetry for my sister to go with (kind of) her scarf. I will post pictures as soon as I get my camera.

Oi... I have been so busy lately. I have hardly even been knitting, but I have been able to sneak in a few rows here and there. I have three papers due for three different classes in the past two weeks. One of them was a MAJOR research paper. It's all over now, so finally I can relax and get back to the knitting world.

I realized that for the ABC-along, D is long past, but I will offer it, anyways:

Well... This weekend I finished The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.

Then I started The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood.

I finished that last night and this evening I am going to start The Friday Night Knitting Club.

I finished my first sock!! I don't think I will be making a second one like this. It just is very ill fitting. I wanted the practice, but I will probably frog it. I'm not sad about it, so don't worry. I started another sock that I know will become a pair.

Finished Calorimetry

So... I have been wanting to knit one of these since I first saw them. I know just about everyone has knit one, but I really wanted one.

Here she is:

Pattern: Calorimetry from Knitty
Yarn: Patons Soy Wool Stripes in Natural Plum
Needles: US 6
Knit For: Mineself
Notes: I used size 6 needles rather than size 8 as was recommended. I had read a lot about how these were coming out way too large. I still cast on 120 stitches, just as the pattern says. I only did ten repeats of row five where the pattern calls for fifteen. It fits very nicely.

Snowmobiling

My sister, my cousin, and I went snowmobiling yesterday. We all had the day off from school. Woo hoo! My sister is still too afraid to drive them, though, so she just doubles with me or my cousin. I am on the red one in the top photo.

My Valentines' Day was wonderful, and I hope yours was, too! DJ and I went to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner (and desert... Hehe.) Then we went to the movies. We saw Fool's Gold. It was sooo funny!! My favorite part of the whole movie, hands down, is when Tess hits Finn in the head with an old man's cane. He says, "You're not really gonna hit me..." WHACK! Hehe.

Shrug This and Happy Valentines' Day!

I finished this on the night of the 12/ morning of the 13... At about 2 am. Yeah, stayed up pretty late. Oh well. I think it was worth it, because I got to wear it to school! ^_^

Presenting... Shrug This:

Pattern: Shrug This from One Skein Wonders
Yarn: Lion Brand Jiffy (about 168 yards, or just over one ball)
Needles: US 11
Knit for: Moi!
Notes: The finished product was REALLY short, so I ripped it back a bit and added a few more inches of St stitch, then did the three rows of ribbing. Overall, I am happy with it. I do think this yarn is maybe a bit fuzzy for this project, but it's alright. I also went up to a size 11 rather than a 10.5 because my gauge was a bit off with the 10.5. I will be making a few more of these for myself, I think, and at least one for a friend.

Also, I joined a new group on Ravelry called Chunky Monkey. It is for knitters that like to use big yarn and big needles. They are doing a Knit Along in March for the Kangaroo Tunic. It is pretty cute, so I am going to be participating. The only drawback is that I think I am going to have trouble finding size 19 circular needles... Hmm...
